The gas valve is a gas distribution device.

When there is a need for more gas in the burner, a signal is sent from the printed circuit board to the gas valve, which opens and allows gas to flow through the valve in to the burner.

In the event of an error or fault, the gas valve is designed to fail safe to prevent fire, explosion or other catastrophic event.
